This is The Best Low-Carb/Keto Taco Seasoning. It’s quick and easy to make at home and only 4g net carbs/1lb taco meat.
I know there are a lot of different taco seasoning recipes out there, but I’ve been on the hunt for my favorite one since we started keto and I think I’ve finally found it! Pre-keto we used to buy Costco size tubs of the McCormick Taco Seasoning because I really loved the flavor. Unfortunately, it has some filler ingredients in it (whey, sugar, and potato starch) that add carbs. In small doses it’s no big deal to me, but we were adding almost 1/3 cup to our batches of taco meat and the extra carbs were adding up pretty quickly. So I set out to create my own version and I like this one even better than the store-bought stuff. It’s cheaper too!

Description
This is the best low-carb/keto taco seasoning! Quick and easy to make at home and only 4g net carbs/1lb taco meat.
Ingredients
For 1lb ground meat:
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ancho chili powder (sub more regular chili powder if you don’t have ancho)
- 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt* (optional)
- 1 teaspoon black pepper* (optional)
For Bulk Taco Seasoning (enough for 6 lbs of meat):
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 2 tablespoons ancho chili powder
- 3 Tablespoons cumin
- 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
- 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 Tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons salt* (optional)
- 2 tablespoons pepper* (optional)
Instructions
For a single batch:
- Combine ingredients in a small bowl. This makes just over 2.5 tablespoons (including the salt and pepper).
For a large batch:
- Combine ingredients in an airtight container like a mason jar. You’ll need about 2.5 tablespoons taco seasoning per 1lb of meat.
To use:
- Brown 1lb ground meat.
- Drain.
- Add 2.5 Tablespoons taco seasoning and 1/2 cup of water.
- Simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the water is absorbed.
Notes
* I prefer to put the salt and pepper in my seasoning blend, but feel free to leave it out and salt and pepper the dish as needed if you prefer. Recipe yields about 2 tablespoons without salt and pepper.
